Loren Bogart -- Message from Mike Lamone

Loren Bogart died Friday October 22. I attended his funeral today. Someone I have known for more than fifty years. I was thirteen days older than Loren and we attended the same grade school, junior high, and high school. Needless to say, we grew up in the same generation. Loren watched his first TV at my house. We were one of the first in the neighborhood to have a black and white screen which took 5 minutes to warm up and needed "rabbit ears". Loren would come over and sit cross legged two feet from the screen and barely move for an hour. Loren and I were never close friends and Ron Prater was his best friend. However, we had a bond that stretched over 50 years and was never broken. We were classmates. We were Lowell classmates and we were Mustang classmates. We could always go back to those days and remember almost as if were yesterday. We remembered those days last June at the 40th reunion. I did not know it would be the last time I would see Loren. If you did not attend the last reunion you did not get to see Loren. And most important Loren did not get to see you. He would have liked to remember with you. There are many reasons not to attend a reunion and many are sound as having a child getting married. Many are not. What was your reason not to come to see Loren,Lynda,Tom, or Alison? What will your reason be in five years? Maybe five years is too long. We have assembled phone numbers, addresses, and e-mails just for you. Why not contact one classmate you have not remembered with in a long time. Say hi and " do you remember.....?". Would you not be happy if a classmate contacted you? 1964 a special time in a special place. Do not let it "go gentle into that good night"(Humanities 64).
